Shaida Escoffery was born in Brooklyn, NY to Jamaican parents and then moved to Miami, FL at the age of seven. She began writing in middle school and continued writing as a hobby all throughout high school. In her first year of college, she began to study Creative Writing at the University of Miami and was the recipient of the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Innovation and Creativity Fellowship for her writing at the University of Miami. With encouragement, she self-published her first novel Idle, Wild, Love. She is now an alumna of the University of Miami and the Graduate School at New York University.
Shaida loves to sing, dance, read and watch films and serves in the Youth and Young Adult Ministry at her local church Kingdom Builders Ministries in Miami, FL.
