Yes

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.- Luke 1:38

These are words I have often thought about, especially during this time of the year. Mary must’ve had some many different thoughts and emotions as the angel spoke to her. Confusion as to how she could get pregnant, excitement over being chosen to be the mother of the Savior of the world, and fear because she’s about to be the MOTHER OF THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD. Oh, and let’s throw in the added reality that she could’ve been stoned to death for being pregnant out of marriage.

What always amazes me about her story is her servanthood. She was willing to be a servant of God, even at an extremely high cost. I hope to be a servant that says, “let it be to me according to your word.” Even when I can’t comprehend how God will bring this to pass, why he’s chosen me, or what will happen on the other side of my obedience. As we count down the days until we get off work, we shop, go to Christmas parties, and plan our Christmas menus, let’s remember that this all came about with a series of Yeses. Adam and Eve said yes to the serpent, Jesus said yes, so he could come to this world to redeem us, and Mary said yes to being his mother for 33 years before saying yes when it was time to let him fulfill his mission to die for our sins.

May our response to God also be YES.
