Sleeeeeppppp. I love it. But I definitely don’t get enough of it. It just always seems like I have too much to do or to be honest, I spend useless time on my phone when I should be sleeping. Sleep is not just a great thing to do. It’s necessary. It’s can actually be godly.
Babies sleep without reservation because they rest in the knowledge that their parents have everything under control. As we grow older, we feel as though everything is up to us, so we have to stay awake. We have to manage our whole worlds. This is why God made a sabbath, this is why he gave us rest. When we sleep, we surrender ourselves to the knowledge that for the next couple hours we will not be in control, we will let the Lord watch over our bodies, our bank accounts, our homes, our children, etc. We trust that we will rise in the morning with renewed strength to tackle the next day ahead of us that God has graciously given us to be stewards of.
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.”
Psalms 4:8 NLT
“I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me.”
Psalms 3:5 NLT
