TODAY’S THE BIG DAY!!!!!!!!! It’s voting day! Many of us, if we haven’t already mailed in our ballot or done early voting, we will join the lines today and place our ballot. Then we’ll wait all day and probably all night to hear the results. I won’t say much today except, this scripture and prayer.
“Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare” (Jeremiah 29:7).
Lord, only you already know the outcome of this election. We thank you for all the opportunities this country has afforded us and all that it is. But, we pray for all that it can grow to be. We pray for your leaders to be guided by you and not by financial gain, by greed, or by power. May they always recognize that all that they have comes from you. May the elected president lead with wisdom, humility, and by your precepts. We will not put our complete faith and confidence in mortal men, we will not idolize any of them. As elected officials, we will hold them accountable, but we will be praying for them with all compassion and conviction. I pray that this election will occur peaceably and that even when we receive the results that we will conduct ourselves peaceably. Help us to not solely find our identity in our political affiliations, our jobs, our gender, our sexuality, our race, or culture. But to remember that you have asked us to first find our identity in you and to remember that we are Citizens of Heaven (Phil 3:20). Help us to conduct ourselves as Citizens of Heaven no matter if our chosen candidate wins or not. Help us to avoid useless debates, arguments, and the pride that divides friendships, family, and churches apart over politics. Help us to still advocate for the unborn, for justice, for peace, for your life-transforming definition of love, grace, and mercy. Help us to not lose what makes us the salt of the earth and the light of the world. (Matthew 5:13-16). In Jesus Name, Amen.
Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God. He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them--he remains faithful forever. he upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord.
