Many of us know the famous song "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus", but I've been challenged lately to examine whether I actually live this way. Do I look to Christ first? Do I look "full in his wonderful face"? Am I experiencing "the things of earth growing strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace"?
I would ask you to reflect on this as I have in the past few weeks.
Where do I go to first for guidance, direction, perspective? Is it social media, my family and friends? If so, what are the reasons for not seeking God first?
One of the things I've found is that whenever Christ isn't the first perspective and person that we run to, then inevitably our view will become shaped by things other than Christ. This is not saying that asking advice from family and friends is wrong, or that even going to the news or social media for perspective and information is wrong either. We should be balanced individuals. However, as believers, the question always will remain, where are we going FIRST? What is the lens through which we will live our lives and form our opinions? If that is anything other than Christ, then we are veering off course.
This isn't the easiest thing to hear or process at times. The world continuously reinforces that Christian outlook and thinking is faulty, bigoted, stupid, backwards, among a host of other things. But the scriptures remind us as believers, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." -Romans 12: 2
